There I stood in front of the mirror looking at my naked body. Where did all that fat come from? My belly was the size of a pumpkin and it looked like I was wearing a tire tube around it. What had happened to my Adonis like body from college?
Maybe I didn't exactly have an Adonis like body in college but I had been in really good shape. Very little body fat, no love handles and definitely no pot belly. And there I stood looking in the mirror at a fat man with love handles and a pot belly. How could I have let myself go this way?
I said to myself - what is the best way to lose fat, love handles and a pot belly - but the only answer I heard was my stomach rumbling and asking for another donut. I decided then and there that I would no longer listen to my stomach's craving for donuts and burgers and I would get into shape with exercise and a proper diet.
That morning I decided that the best exercise for me was simply walking. I have always loved to go walking. To me it's not boring as it makes my mind more alert as I walk through the different neighborhoods of my city. I walk to and from work every day now. It's about a 45 minute walk each way and it relaxes me as well - especially after a stressful day at work.
And I completely changed my diet.
No more donuts for my tummy. My diet now consists of plenty of vegetables and fruit, whole grain breads, rice and pasta, lean meat, fish and poultry, milk, yogurt and cheese (reduced fats of course) and I drink plenty of water.
I don't know if the diet and exercise program I use will work for you. You may have to find what works best for yourself.
Now when I look at myself naked in the mirror I no longer see the fat, love handles and pot belly. I see that old Adonis body of mine. Well, maybe not quite an Adonis. But I sure don't look like Homer Simpson anymore.
Though every once in a while I do hear my stomach grumbling for a donut.
