I watched the board and the 3 horse dropped to 8 after a morning line of 12. Something was up. I bet 40 across the board. Five minutes to post so I went to the coffee shop and got a cup of coffee in a styrofoam cup.

I checked my program to pick the winner of the next race. I love horse race thoroughbred and I love racetracks. There is something about the smell of a horse racetrack. It's there in your mouth like a taste at the back of your tongue.

The race started and I went out on the deck to watch. But people seemed to be bumping into me everywhere I turned. I finally caught sight of my horse and could see that it was fighting the jockey or the jockey was fighting it. The jockey kept pulling the horses head back. It was almost like the jockey was trying to get ahead of the horse. It made no sense.

I knew my horse was out of it. The action had been all wrong. I went back to the coffee shop and had another coffee. I could hear the roar of the crowd as the thoroughbreds came into the final stretch. Then it was over and the crowd came bursting in all full of bravado. They were bragging or complaining and they weren't shy about letting everybody know how brilliant they were at picking the winner or how unlucky they were at not picking the winner.

The next race was a no brainer. The favorite was in a class by itself so I looked for a horse that could place or show. The most important thing to have when picking thoroughbreds is a betting system. I have a betting system but you can see I completely abandoned it in the first race. And that is when I learned never to abandon your betting system. If it works - stick with it.
