The Basics:

Registering - before you can sell or buy anything you must register. On the first page of ebay.com you will find the registration link with plenty of easy instructions on how to register. It is free to register.

Get to know how eBay works - a great way to get to understand eBay is by making a purchase. You will understand the customer experience from their perspective. You will also learn how the different payment and shipping processes work. If you need any home office material such as pens or other basic office supplies purchase them off of eBay. You'll also get them cheaper.

What to sell - if you are just beginning the best products to sell are products that you know about and products that you are interested in. If you are interested in books find a book niche such as rare books or technical books or what ever your interest is and sell them.

Do searches on the products you are interested in selling to get ideas on how others are selling these products. You may find that you can do it better.

Another important thing to do is to create a ME page. A ME page is just what it says - it's all about YOU. This allows you to give prospective customers a little info about you and your background. This creates a comfortable feeling for prospective buyers. It gives them a feeling that they know you and feel comfortable purchasing from you.

Other things you should know about before selling:

The feedback system - the feedback system is a rating system that allows people to rate the experience they had purchasing from you. It is basically your eBay reputation. If you have a great feedback rating buyers are more likely to purchase from you.

Shipping - find out all you can about shipping your products such as postal scales, boxes, labels, tape etc.

PayPal - PayPal is the preferred method of payment on eBay and it is also owned by eBay. It is easy and free to register for a PayPal account and you can receive payments and make payments through this account.

These are just some of the basics for eBay. There is a lot more info at the eBay website and if you are serious about selling on eBay I would suggest you read through their web site and take notes. They have a wonderful community there with lots of great tips.
